Looking after your freshly refurbished wheels is the best way to preserve the finish, protect the repair and keep your vehicle looking sharp for longer. Whether you have had a painted alloy repair, a diamond cut refurbishment or a lease return tidy-up, following a few simple steps will help maintain the quality of the work.
1. Washing refurbished wheels
After any repair or refurbishment, the fresh finish needs time to cure fully. Avoid washing your vehicle for 5 to 7 days. This helps prevent moisture or cleaning chemicals from affecting the surface while it is still settling.
2. Hold off on tyre changes
If your wheels have been repaired, avoid tyre changes for at least 7 days. This prevents unnecessary pressure on the freshly treated areas and reduces the risk of marks or lifting around the edges.
3. Keep cleaning gentle
Once the first week has passed, wash your wheels with mild shampoo and soft cloths only. Avoid abrasive pads, acidic wheel cleaners or aggressive brushes. These can dull the finish on painted wheels and scratch the surface of diamond cut rims.
4. Check wheel nut torque after 50 miles
If your wheels have been removed during the process, we always advise checking the torque after around 50 miles of driving. This is a simple step that helps ensure everything remains secure and correctly seated.
5. Protect the finish with regular cleaning
Brake dust, road grime and winter salt can build up quickly. Clean your wheels regularly using gentle products. This helps preserve the shine and stops contaminants embedding into the surface.
6. Take care with high-pressure jets
Pressure washers are fine at a safe distance. Keep the nozzle at least a couple of feet away from the wheel to avoid direct force on the refurbished areas.
7. Treat kerbs with caution
Freshly repaired wheels look their best when kept free from scuffs. Take extra care when parking and avoid scraping along kerbs or tight edges.
With the right aftercare, your wheels will stay looking fresh, clean and professionally finished for longer. These simple steps protect the repair and help maintain that just refurbished look long after we have completed the work.
If you ever have questions about maintenance, products or specific wheel types, we are always here to help.
